Performance Santa Fe welcomes Met Opera star Angela Meade to the Scottish Rite!
Soprano Angela Meade has accomplished a rare feat: she began her career at the top of the opera world and has stayed there ever since. The Washington state native has won fifty-seven vocal competitions, including the 2007 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. After this victory, the Met hired Meade as an understudy for the role of Elvira in Verdi’s Ernani. At the last minute, she replaced her ailing colleague and the rest, as they say, is history.
The “astounding” (New Yorker) Ms. Meade has since made her mark with opera companies such as the Met, the Vienna State Opera, and Deutsche Oper Berlin, and with orchestras like the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the 2015 BBC Proms. She is especially notable for her work with Verdi, Mozart, and the bel canto repertoire. You won’t want to miss a recital of “plush sound, unforced power, and sumptuous beauty.” (The New York Times)
Ms. Meade will sing works by Bellini, Liszt, Puccini, Catalani, and more, and will be accompanied by PSF Artistic Director Joe Illick.
