Performance Santa Fe begins its 80th season with Daniel Okulitch and Keri Alkema in recital!
Highly acclaimed for his irresistible magnetism, remarkable bass-baritone Daniel Okulitch will sing Glen Roven’s Santa Fe Songs to texts by Santa Fe poets, accompanied by the composer. This summer, Okulitch will display “richness, vigor and subtle lyricism” (The New York Times) in the title role of Mozart’s gripping Don Giovanni at The Santa Fe Opera. Okulitch most recently brought his “focused, resonant bass-baritone” (NJ Star-Ledger) to The Santa Fe Opera as the count in 2013’s Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro.
Soprano Keri Alkema, who has been praised for her “tonal opulence,” will sing Roven’s Six Ancient Chinese Songs, with text by poet Jane Hirshfield. Alkema will appear at The Santa Fe Opera this summer as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni. “Keri Alkema owns the stage as the fantastically obsessive Donna Elvira.” (New York Magazine)
Alkema and Okulitch will also perform a duet, premiering Glen Roven’s Goodnight Moon, based on the children’s book.
Composer Glen Roven and Performance Santa Fe’s Artistic Director Joe Illick will accompany at the piano.
