Apollo’s Fire is no stranger to Performance Santa Fe audiences. And now fans of Jeannette Sorrell and her Grammy-winning Baroque orchestra can enjoy them in the new critically-acclaimed documentary Playing With Fire: Jeannette Sorrell and the Mysteries of Conducting.
Two-time Oscar-winning director Allan Miller takes us behind the scenes to explore how Sorrell overcame tremendous odds to become the orchestra’s founding artistic director in 1992. Once told by the Juilliard School and The Cleveland Orchestra that no one will hire a female conductor, the film follows Sorrell on her journey to becoming one of today’s most vivid interpreters of baroque and classical music. Premiered in New York City in October 2019, this exquisite film also reveals never-before-seen rehearsal footage, which is extremely rare for Sorrell and her world-class musicians. Recently named “Best US Documentary” at the Chagrin Documentary Film Fest, Playing With Fire is now available to PSF Annual Fund members exclusively on PSF@Home.
