Youth Programs

Working directly with thousands of students each year, the PSF Education Program fosters discipline and excellence, measurably improving academic performance, self-esteem, resilience, and problem solving skills in students, as well as nurturing a life-long love of music.

The Sostenuto Program supports the existing chorus, band, and orchestra programs in the Santa Fe Public Schools by engaging professional musicians, who work alongside the schools’ music directors, to mentor music students and to provide attentive evaluation and technical expertise. In 2017/18, Sostenuto will provide 1,000 hours of mentoring while serving El Dorado Community School, Gonzales Community School, Ortiz Middle School, Capshaw Middle School, Capital High School, and Santa Fe High School.

We thank our very dedicated teachers: Sitara Schauer, violin; Deborah Barbe, violin; Bill Williams, trumpet; and Sarah Weiler, mezzo-soprano.

Bravo! kids

Children in grades 1 through 12 have the opportunity to interact and work closely with world-renowned artists through cooperative performances, workshops, master classes, and stage opportunities. Bravo! Kids nurtures performance skills and inspires excellence in youths pursuing artistic education – from beginners to emerging professionals. These concerts and collaborative events provide dynamic and captivating musical experiences in our schools, in our concert venues, and around Santa Fe.

While the Harlem Quartet was in town this November, they participated in our Bravo! Kids program, playing concerts at Capshaw Middle School and El Camino Real Academy. At both schools they shared their experiences, answered questions and did a coaching session with advanced orchestra students.

“Our orchestra director at El Camino Real Academy, Carla Kountoupes, upon the conclusion of a visit by Harlem String Quartet, comments ‘My students were blown away and totally inspired. Having you [Harlem String Quartet] work with my eighth grade orchestra students was thrilling for the kids. Thank you all so much for coming to our school.'” Leanne Devane, SFPS Music Education Coordinator
