EPIK Artist Programs

Opportunities for Talented Young Performers

The EPIK Artist Program is for the most technically and musically advanced young musicians in the Santa Fe area. These musicians already demonstrate a high level of technical skill, musicianship and commitment to pursuing a musical career. We challenge and support these extraordinary musicians in the following ways: regular coaching; opportunities to work with nationally recognized teachers; scholarships for study outside the state with individual teachers and at music camps; assistance with competition expenses, preparation, videos/CDs; monthly performance opportunities. Our most advanced EPIK Artists perform with the Performance Santa Fe Orchestra on the stage of the Lensic with Maestro Joseph Illick. Our most advanced singers perform in supporting roles in our annual Community Opera.

Side by Side places an advanced EPIK Artist within the Performance Santa Fe Orchestra, seated with an orchestra member for rehearsals and performances in our opening and holiday orchestral concerts. This opportunity is a bridge for a young and very talented instrumentalist to make the transition into the professional world of concert performance. 2016-2017 Side by Side Artists: Phoenix Avalon, 15, violin, and Ezra Shcolnik of the Colburn Young Artists Academy, 15, violin

The Studio Artists are beginning to demonstrate promise and need the opportunity to perform as soloists in a public arena. The Studio Artists receive musical and nerve management coaching. They are eligible for the EPIK scholarships to support their dedication and to further study. The program encourages and helps the musicians find confidence-building opportunities, such as appropriate summer camps and outside performances. The program, using a system of mock tryouts and audition preparation coaching, prepares the musicians to be successful in their auditions.

The Ensemble is the EPIK Program entry-level group and comprises a broad range of experience and technical/musical proficiency. The Ensemble members receive individual coaching, have two annual in-house concerts, participate in the public holiday concerts, and perform as the chorus in the Community Opera, where they work alongside professional singers and stage directors. The more advanced musicians in the Ensemble perform short solos in these public performances.
