Performance Santa Fe launched its Family Concert Series in November 2013 to bring timeless music to families with children as well as music lovers of all ages. Designed to be child-and-family-friendly, the concerts are hour-long interactive and entertaining performances. Artistic Director Joseph Illick serves as narrator, host, pianist, and conductor.
“The value of Performance Santa Fe’s Family Concert Series is immeasurable; we hope families and children will come to these special performances to simply experience together the joy of a concert performance,” says Maestro Joseph Illick. “We also believe that these concerts could become a life-changing experience for some children and their families, in the way that early exposure to concert music was for me,” he adds.
The Performance Santa Fe Family Concert Series is reminiscent of the much-loved “Young People’s Concerts” by Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic, which aired for more than a decade starting in 1958. These concerts introduced the joy of classical music to a whole generation of young people. A study by the Wallace Foundation found that “unless the young develop an interest in the arts and learn to respond to the language of different artistic disciplines, they are not likely to become members of the adult arts audience.” Performance Santa Fe believes that the Family Concert Series, like the Bernstein series, can help children develop a lifelong appreciation of timeless music.
Tickets for each Family Concert are $5 per child under 18 and $20 per adult unless otherwise noted.
