Performance Santa Fe presents A Celebration of Harold Pinter!
Nobel Prize-winning playwright Harold Pinter left behind a lustrous career that spanned over 50 years when he lost his battle to cancer in 2008. While Pinter is best remembered today as one of the most influential dramatists of his generation, his apprentice and longtime friend Julian Sands—”a warm, witty, and thoroughly winning actor” (Backstage) recognized world-wide for his roles in The Killing Fields, A Room with a View, and the hit television series 24—pays homage to the man behind the dark, theatrical masterpieces in an intimate and exactingly assembled one-man show. A Celebration of Harold Pinter, directed by John Malkovich, earned a Drama Desk nomination in 2013 for its thoughtful depiction of Pinter as a mentor, husband, political activist, and poet. “This modest, affecting show embodies the notion of the actor as a transparent vessel through which we see the thoughts and feelings of others” (The New York Times).
Ticket buyers are encouraged to stay after the performance to meet Julian Sands at a complimentary artist reception in the Scottish Rite Temple ballroom, where champagne and desserts will be served.
As part of Performance Santa Fe’s educational offerings this season, Julian Sands will teach a master class for theater students from NMSA. The class will be held on Friday, September 21 from 3 pm to 4:30 pm at the Scottish Rite Temple. The public is welcome to attend as an audience member.
