Performance Santa Fe presents jazz vocalist Alicia Olatuja!
Alicia Olatuja has one of the most exquisite instruments around: a glorious, mezzo-soprano voice that can seamlessly transition between jazz, soul, gospel, and pop. Olatuja has perfected her “strong, lustrous tone” (The New York Times) by immersing herself in a wide range of musical styles, from singing in St. Louis church choirs during her youth to completing her Masters at the Manhattan School of Music.
The rising star made her professional debut as Sacagewea at Opera Memphis, Carnegie Hall, UVA, and The Kennedy Center before taking the world by storm during her performance at President Obama’s second inauguration. She has since released two critically-acclaimed albums, collaborated with such artists as Billy Childs, Chaka Khan, and Christian McBride, and graced the stages of the nation’s top jazz venues.
Accompanied by her acclaimed jazz combo, Alicia Olatuja takes the stage at the Lensic Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, February 11 to perform career highlights as well as songs from her latest album, Intuition: Songs from the Minds of Women, which celebrates the achievements of a long list of esteemed female composers.
