The Montreal-based circus company Les 7 doigts de la main (literally, “the seven fingers of the hand”—a play on a metaphor for distinct parts united toward one goal) formed in 2002. The seven founders’—most of whom spent years working with Cirque du Soleil—goal was to use their nearly 140 years of combined experience to create an entirely new circus experience—one that was intimate, familiar, and authentic.
Cuisine and Confessions, a recent creation of theirs, reflects the centricity of the kitchen – where we make our favorite meals, where we bond through cooking, and where our strongest sensory memories are impressed. The performers dexterously blur the line between acrobatics and contemporary dance, between theatre and athleticism—and manage to cook a delicious meal in the middle of it all. “Warm, generous, enveloping… Very well done and very, very moving.” (CBC News)
