Performance Santa Fe presents the Mark Morris Dance Group and Music Ensemble!
Mark Morris founded the Mark Morris Dance Group (MMDG) in 1980 at just the age of 24 and has since gone on to become “the most successful and influential choreographer alive, and indisputably the most musical” (New York Times). To date, Morris has created more than 150 works for the company, collaborated with celebrated musicians such as Yo-Yo Ma, received 11 honorary doctorates, and was named a Fellow of the MacArthur Foundation, in addition to receiving a multitude of prestigious awards for the unparalleled ingenuity and musicality that he brings to his art.
Morris comes to Santa Fe with the internationally-renowned Mark Morris Dance Group and its accompanying musicians, the MMDG Music Ensemble. The company, hailed as “the preeminent modern dance ensemble of our time” (Yo-Yo Ma), will grace the Lensic stage for one evening to perform Dancing Honeymoon, Words, Three Preludes, and Grand Duo.
In addition to enjoying a captivating performance, audience members will have a chance to meet Mark Morris and the dance ensemble at a post-performance “Offstage Reception” at Casa Espana. Tickets to the reception are available through the Performance Santa Fe office.
As part of Performance Santa Fe’s education offerings during the 2018-19 season, PSF has scheduled a masterclass with MMDG at NDI on Friday, November 30 for dance students from New Mexico School for the Arts.
