A marvelous dance company led by one of today’s greatest choreographic minds!
Mark Morris, the kind of dancer who simply bowls one over” (The New York Times) made a name for himself in New York in the 1970s and 80s. In addition to choreographing and conducting dance, he is a director and choreographer for the Met and Covent Garden, among other world stages. Morris has collaborated with celebrated musicians like Yo-Yo Ma, and has received 11 honorary doctorates and thousands of accolades since founding the Mark Morris Dance Company in 1980 at age 24.
Since then, the “extraordinarily daft visionary” (The New York Times) has written nearly 150 works for the “fresh, perceptive, and absorbing” (Orange County Register) company. Mark Morris, who is famous for being undeviating in his devotion to music” (The New Yorker) and its deep significance in his works, is increasingly unique among modern dance directors for his exclusive use of live music. He combines dance and music in an “often brilliantly satisfying” and “extraordinarily complex” way, all the while moving his “marvelous” dancers with “sheer imagination” and a wicked sense of humor (The New York Times).
Performance Santa Fe is proud to present 16 of Mark Morris Dance Company’s celebrated performers to the Lensic for one evening.
