Performance Santa Fe is thrilled to present music legends Irma Thomas, The Blind Boys of Alabama, and The Preservation Hall Legacy Quintet!
Blues vocalist Irma Thomas—revered as the Soul Queen of New Orleans—has become one of the Crescent City’s most beloved and honored musical ambassadors since her recording career began over five decades ago. The Grammy Award-winner and inductee of the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame is known for her hit singles like “It’s Raining,” “Time Is On My Side,” and “Ruler of My Heart,” as well as for her collaborations with dozens of artists of note, including Dr. John and Allen Toussaint.
Hailed as “gospel titans” (Rolling Stone), The Blind Boys of Alabama have provided spiritually uplifting vocals since their inception in 1939 when they first sang together as schoolchildren. 70 years later, the members have six GRAMMY Awards under their collective belts, including a Lifetime Achievement Award, and are upholding the soulful sounds of traditional gospel while remaining just as relevant as ever to 21st century audiences.
The Preservation Hall Legacy Quintet is comprised of some of the most cherished alumni of New Orleans’s revered Preservation Hall Jazz Band—Greg Stafford, Freddie Lonzo, Joe Lastie, Jr., Calvin Johnson, and Christopher Vaughn. As the world-renowned Preservation Hall Jazz Band continues its exciting exploration of the boundaries of New Orleans jazz, the Preservation Hall Legacy Quintet was formed, with the help of the non-profit Preservation Hall Foundation, to help maintain a connection with the traditional aspects of the Hall’s musical legacy.
This soulful evening of jazz standards and new collaborations is not to be missed!
