Overview

Performance Santa Fe is partnering with Third Coast Percussion to present two new digital education opportunities. TCP has put together two exciting virtual courses —Think Outside the Drum and WAVES— which introduce key musical concepts in unexpected ways.

Think Outside the Drum is a 50 minute video that can be broken down into shorter segments and interspersed with interactive performances and exercises. These exercises will challenge students at any musical level! Think Outside the Drum also demonstrates an extraordinary range of percussion instruments and styles that can be found across the world (and at home!). This class is suitable for all ages.

WAVES, Third Coast Percussion’s other offering, explores the amplitude, dynamics, frequency, pitch, and timbre of sound. WAVES is best suited for students in grades 3-8. This program will spark curiosity in students about the physical characteristics of sound and teach students to observe and investigate sound beyond traditional musical analysis. TCP created this course in collaboration with the University of Notre Dame and used super-high-powered cameras to capture sound waves moving through instruments! Watching a cymbal wobble with the physical movement of sound will be sure to captivate students and spark classroom dialogue.
