Vadim Gluzman

World-renowned violinist Vadim Gluzman was born in the former Soviet Union in 1973, where he began studying the violin at the age of 7 before moving to Israel in 1990. Much encouraged by his teachers and mentors—Zakhar Bron, Yair Kless, Arkady Fomin, Dorothy DeLay, and Isaac Stern—Gluzman developed a stunning technical prowess and a rare gift of exquisite lyricism and emotional expression. Today he is praised for his “bristling virtuosity” (Chicago Classical Review), appears regularly with major orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and London Symphony Orchestra, and has extensive accolades for his recordings under the BIS label, including Gramaphone‘s Editor’s Choice, Classical Magazine’s esteemed Choc de Classica award, and Disc of the Month by The Strad. Gluzman plays on an exquisite 1690 Stradivarius violin that legendary virtuoso Leopold Auer previously owned.

Pianist Angela Yoffe, originally from Latvia, is one of Gluzman’s regular recital partners and wife of 23 years. They will perform in Santa Fe on February 10, just in time to celebrate Valentine’s Day with an intimate program. “We are playing Richard Strauss’s Sonata for Violin and Piano. He wrote it at the age of 21, just as he fell in love with Pauline de Ahna, a soprano, the love of his life and his future wife. The whole Sonata is an exquisite love story in three movements,” Gluzman says. Their program also includes 20th-century works by Stravinsky, Bloch, and Pärt, alongside Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s brilliant transcription of themes from Rossini’s Barber of Seville.
