“Surpassing brilliance” (Radio Bremen) and “deep musicality” (Classics Today) help to make the season bright!
Performance Santa Fe’s Christmas Eve orchestra concert will feature pianist Claire Huangci. Since beginning her international career at the age of 9, pianist Claire Huangci has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony, the Moscow Radio Symphony, and the Munich Chamber Orchestra, in addition to winning several competitions. Huangci, now 26, has long since outgrown the double-edged sword of prodigy and come into her own as a “stunning” (The Guardian) performer. She joins the Performance Santa Fe Orchestra for Prokofiev’s inventive and evocative Piano Concerto no. 2, one of the most technically formidable pieces in the repertoire.
This all-Russian evening begins with Rimsky–Korsakov’s famed Scheherazade, based on the immortal tales in One Thousand and One Nights. Its colorful orchestration, beautiful and memorable melodies, and intriguing influences make it a masterpiece.
Our 1:00 PM Family Concert welcomes first-time orchestra-goers of all ages for an exciting chance to experience classical music in an informative and informal context.
