Education Director, Gina Browning talks about the outcomes of arts education in Santa Fe:
Lots of people ask me, “What happens to the EPIK Artists?
Not all of them choose to study music as a career track, but many do and have been extremely successful. We think the program works…and we can see it does. So here’s a partial update:Arts education makes a difference.
One dancer is now in the Boston Ballet Company, another is beginning with Alvin Ailey, and we have musicians at the Jacobs School of Music (Indiana University), McGill School of Music, two at Hartt School of Music, one at Berklee, one at the Thornton School (University of Southern California), three high schoolers at Interlochen (the school year program), a 13-year-old just beginning Colburn as a violinist and a composer—the first time they have ever taken a composer at the pre-college level!—and one 13-year-old who makes his Carnegie Hall debut (Weill Hall) in November—he won 2nd place in his age group at The International Piano and Strings Competition 2014.
This is only some of them, but we think the program has been very impactful! ALL of them are totally incredible and work so, so hard. I could not be more proud of each and every one!
