If you haven’t yet heard the name Veronica Swift, it’s time you do. At just 24 years of age, Swift is making waves in the world of jazz as one of the most talented vocalists of her generation. Praised for her “tremenodous tonal command” (JazzTimes), showmanship, and ability to seamlessly transition between bebop, swing, tunes from the Great American Songbook, and beyond, Swift has gained the attention of industry titans such as Benny Green, who has deemed Swift to be “the greatest straight-ahead jazz talent I’ve seen emerge this century.” A 2015 finalist of the prestigious Thelonius Monk Competition, Swift frequently performs at New York City’s famed Birdland Jazz Club. She has also earned invitations to perform as a guest artist alongside Michael Feinstein at Jazz at Lincoln Center and has headlined at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center in New York City and the Telluride Jazz Festival in Colorado.
As part of Performance Santa Fe’s educational offerings this season, Veronica Swift will perform for 5th and 6th graders from the Kearny, Salazar, Chaparral, Pinon, Nava, Ortiz, Eldorado, and EJ Martínez elementary schools at 10 a.m. on November 9 at the Lensic Performing Arts Center.
