The game-changing young players return to Santa Fe!
“The Harlem players produce such a seductively velvet sound and phrase so intuitively and exultantly that any potential difficulties seem to melt away.” (The Strad) The young quartet has performed for President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, and with Chick Corea, Itzhak Perlman, and Wynton Marsalis, in addition to participating heavily in community outreach. They want to see classical audiences become more diverse, and want the world to know that “classical music can be cool.” (Ilmar Gavilan, violin I). With a non-traditional program and a fresh approach to the world of classical music, “We like to break the rules,” says 2nd violinist Melissa White.
They will be joined by the “exhilarating” and “hypnotic” (All About Jazz) jazz clarinetist Eddie Daniels—described by Leonard Bernstein as “a thoroughly well-bred demon”—for the world premiere of a piece by composer Charles Fox, who wrote for such TV standbys as Monday Night Football, Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley, composed for Barry Manilow, and wrote the song Killing me Softly.
Especially for children, the Harlem String Quartet will perform Rumpelstiltskin for string quartet and storyteller on Sunday, November 15, 4:00pm, at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Santa Fe. Tickets are $20/adult; $5/child.
Monday, November 16, 2015 at 7:30 pm
