Join Maestro Joe Illick, piano duo Anderson & Roe, and the Performance Santa Fe Orchestra to celebrate a beloved tradition – a magical concert on Christmas Eve.
The 2:00 PM Family Preview Concert welcomes first-time symphony-goers of all ages – a stupendous chance to experience the timeless, enthralling artistry that is classical music.
Since 2002, Greg Anderson and Elizabeth Roe have been revolutionizing the world of the piano duo. The Steinway artists, who met as freshmen at Juilliard, have been hailed for their “sheer imagination, energy, and drive” (San Francisco Classical Voice) and their “uncanny ensemble prowess” (Gramophone) and have been featured on NPR and MTV for their cross-genre, pulse-pounding performances and music videos (a recent music film on The Rite of Spring involved setting an organ on fire). “We like adrenaline […] we like to express the full scope of life,” says Anderson. “At Juilliard […] I’d look around at the audience and performers, and they seemed to be practically bowing their heads in reverential prayer, worshiping these musical works deemed to be great. […] I think it misses the point. […] Do we dissect Mozart’s music in a scientific study and merely comment on its perfection? Or do we approach it as the mirthful and reckless Mozart would while playing with friends?”
Maestro Joseph Illick and the Performance Santa Fe Orchestra will play Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5, which Prokofiev called “a hymn to free and happy Man, to his mighty powers, his pure and noble spirit.” The “bold and brash” duo, Anderson and Roe, will join the orchestra for Brahms’ Double Concerto arranged for orchestra and two pianos.
