Join the charismatic Grammy-award winning violinist for a stunning recital!
Described as “the outstanding American violinist of his generation” by TIME Magazine, Gil Shaham has enjoyed unrivaled success since the age of 18, when he filled in for an ailing Itzhak Perlman at the last minute with the London Symphony Orchestra.
Shaham began playing at age seven after overcoming resistance from his mother, who was “dead against it” because “little kids playing the violin made her cringe, as it sounded like fingernails on a blackboard.” He studied in Israel and later at Juilliard, and plays a 1699 Stradivarius. Today, he is the recipient of many awards including the Avery Fisher Prize (2008) and a Grammy (1999). He is known especially for his “lustrous tone, brilliant technique, and sweeping energy” as well as his sense of humor and “sunny disposition” (The New York Times).
Gil Shaham travels to Santa Fe to play the Bach Partitas—the B minor, D minor (which includes the spiritually and emotionally powerful Chaconne), and E major—all featured on his newly released solo Bach CD. Gramophone magazine raved, “it is impossible to listen to it [Shaham’s Bach] without having a positive artistic experience.
